Somewhere after it’s peak, Prog became a dirty word and even the mention of Yes, Jethro Tull or early Genesis got you laughed off the pub table. So we all started calling everything either post-something or math-something. But those of us who actually quite like the three bands named earlier knew the bitter truth that nobody else wanted to acknowledge.
But coming out of the indie-electro thing and people being a bit more interested in psychedelia now, the whole ‘prog’ issue can come out of the closet, at least a little. There’s even people who are bravely saying that they actually quite liked Close To The Edge and that Bill Bruford’s solo stuff was actually slightly amazing. And then along come bands like Diagrams who are more than just saying things like that, they’re actually making the sentiment real.
